September Information

Good afternoon!

Here are the notes from our September luncheon/ meeting as well as squadron news:

Meeting:  September 11, 2008; 1:00 p.m. at the Kastaniengarten in Enkenbach

  • Lt. Col Pukall “coined” Kimberly for thanks and recognition of her volunteer service to the Key Spouse Program.  We will miss Kimberly’s service - especially her beautiful newsletters!  She’ll still be an active participant, but needs some time to focus on her graduate studies.
  • A very warm welcome to Sue Huffman, a new spouse with the 603rd - taking over the responsibilities of Lisa Davidson.
  • We have 4 deployed squadron members.  Donations for the care packages can be dropped off in a designated collection box in the Central/ Northern Europe Flight Office at the squadron.  Suggestions include:  non-melting candy, reading material, individual coffee, moist wipes
  • Sembach Fall Festival: Saturday October 25th to include “Trunk or Treat.”  We will have a 21 OWS Key Spouse Program trunk.  Candy and Decoration donations are extremely appreciated and can also be dropped off at a designated collection box in the Central/Northern Europe Flight Office.  More info to follow on the specifics of the day as I receive it.
  • October Spouse Function:  Grape Harvesting at a Vineyard
    Date: Friday, October 3rd; 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Location:  www.schloss-westerhaus.de
Cost:15 Euros includes a welcome glass of sekt, grape harvesting experience, visit to the vintner’s cellar to watch the grapes’ journey, a glass of the newly pressed cider, a vintner’s rustic lunch.  They will also take our picture for a wine bottle label for wine produced with grapes we harvested - this wine will be available in the spring for purchase.
Transport:  Car pool, meet at the A63/B48 Park N Ride at 8:45 a.m.
RSVP:  to this e-mail ASAP!  I need to confirm with them our reserved places no later than this Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Children are very welcome!
  • Fundraiser Ideas:  Misty had a good one - a bake sale that takes place at the squadron in the morning at shift change time.  This would require minimal volunteer presence, just baked goods to be dropped off.  We use our funds to create welcome bags for incoming airmen with dependents.  I’d also like to use some of our funds to host spouses of deployed members at monthly functions.
  • November spouse function:  Fondue Night at a local restaurant - children are always welcome and since it takes place in the evening, let’s open the gathering up to the active duty member as well.
  • Booster Club Rep:  Thank you to Mr. Yancey for filling in this month, the meeting fell on the same day, at the same time as our lunch.

Squadron News/ Booster Club Notes/ FYI:

  •  Squadron Holiday Party:  Saturday Dec 13th, Novatel Hotel in K-Town, Buffet Dinner, Children’s Party in a separate room; estimated cost per adult at this time is $5.00.  A block of rooms for spending the night has been reserved - cost and more specifics to follow.  No spouse volunteers are needed at this time.
  • Ramstein Welfare Bazaar today through Sunday.  The squadron has a booth selling funnel cakes.  Please patronize them!

FYI

  • JOB OPENING:  Secretary to a weather colonel at Ramstein.  Closeout date is soon - Sept 30th.  If you are interested please respond ASAP and we can get you started with the application process!
  • College Night at ROB.  October 16th, 6-8:30 p.m.; over 100 colleges represented.  This is a fantastic opportunity in our community for families with high school children as well as for spouses that may want to pursue a university path.
  • Gas Coupons:
The current Germany Series POL Coupons with an expiration date of 30 September 2008 will be extended for acceptance at ESSO, ARAL Stations on the Autobahn and AAFES Gas Stations through 30 November 2008.  The extension through 31 December 2008 is being worked at this time.

Have a wonderful day and please let me know if there is anything I can do for you!
